THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

" Everyone likes to say Hitler did this" and "Hitler did that". But the truth is Hitler did very little. He was a world class asshole, but the evil actually done, from the slave-labor camps to WW2 was all done by citizens who were afraid to question if what they were told by their government was the truth or not, and who because they did not want to admit to themselves that they were afraid to question the government, refused to see the truth behind the Reichstag Fire, refused to see the invasion by Poland was a staged fake, and followed Hitler into national disaster.

FLASHBACK - Is the CIA counterfeiting dollars and blaming it on North Korea?

"Super notes" -- forged U.S. dollars of such high quality that even experts have trouble detecting them -- have taken on an almost mythic status among national security watchers. Supposedly, they're part of a plot to undermine confidence in the U.S. economy, and at times they've been called an act of war.

Their origins have tended to shift with the political winds; it was said that they originate in Iran, some have speculated that they come from the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon (where they were supposedly produced by Syria) and lately the consensus has been that they're part of a sinister North Korean plan. Others have accused Israel of printing them.

Obama keeps N. Korea off terror sponsor list

President Barack Obama said Wednesday he had decided not to reinstate nuclear-armed North Korea to a list of countries that the United States considers state sponsors of terrorism.

Obama made the determination in a letter sent to leaders of the U.S. Congress that accompanied a classified report on the conduct of North Korea between June 26, 2008, and Nov. 16, 2009.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The timing here is interesting.

One has to wonder if Obama feels that Kim's son, and obvious successor, may interpret this as some kind of an "olive branch" to get talks going again.

North Korea says it holds 2nd American

The North Korean government informed the State Department on Friday that it is holding a second American citizen who the North Koreans say entered the country from China, a State Department spokesman said.

The American, who has not been identified, was detained Monday for trespassing on North Korea's border with China, state-run Korea Central News Agency reported Thursday. The incident is under investigation, according to the agency's report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These two men being held by North Korea are there because of only two possibilities: either complete, abject stupidity, or this is some kind of a set-up.

There is absolutely no middle ground here.

North Korea accuses South of declaring war

North Korea on Sunday accused the South of declaring war by warning earlier this month that it would launch a preemptive strike if it thought its impoverished neighbor was preparing a nuclear attack.

The angry retort from Pyongyang is the latest in what have become increasingly brittle relations between the two Koreas just as the international community tries to lure the North back to nuclear disarmament talks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What North Korea really wants here is a peace treaty to formally end the Korean war, which the US has rejected out of hand a couple of weeks ago.

S. Korea, U.S. out to break N. Korea's pattern of belligerence: official

South Korea and the United States will not give in to North Korea's demands in order to resume negotiations on ending the North's nuclear ambition, saying that this time, they will try to "break" the communist nation's pattern of brinkmanship, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One wonders just how this is supposed to be accomplished, as North Korea is still a "client state" of China.

I cry for those soldiers on both sides of the war who at one special night so long ago recognized each others humanity.

I cry because I know right after that night they all were transferred to different fronts to make them forget what they had learned.

I know, that after that night the first major war-lies were developed on the side of the allies spreading rumors that German soldiers were roasting Belgian babies.

Seoul has own fears over US surge

United States President Barack Obama set off a wave of speculation in the South Korean capital when he declaimed before American troops at Osan Air Base, south of Seoul, last month that "many of you served in Iraq", "others served in Afghanistan", "others among you may deploy yet again" - and "every American appreciates what you are trying to do".

The troops, gathered in a large warehouse facility at the end of Obama's recent swing through Northeast Asia, cheered at the tributes to service in the Middle East, but remained politely silent at the mention of deploying "yet again".

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now we have a better idea of where some of the troops for the "surge" in Afghanistan are coming from.

Would soldiers from US forces in South Korea be joining them, and did the Pentagon plan to replace them - or reduce American troop strength in the South from the current level of 28,500?

N.Korea military on guard against unrest: reports

North Korea's military was on guard as public anger grew over the communist country's shock currency revaluation, reports said Thursday.

They said the North had tightened security against possible agitation, with a curfew reportedly imposed in a border region and shops closed across the country during the changeover period to a new currency, which ends Sunday.

Analysts said the move, still not announced by official media, appears aimed at clamping down on burgeoning free markets in an attempt to reassert the regime's control.

North Koreans in misery as cash is culled

Shops and markets in North Korea have been closed and all cash transactions frozen after the Government’s shock announcement of a devaluation of its currency in an effort to crack down on the country’s burgeoning free-market economy.

There were reports of public outrage and confusion after the announcement of the measure, which requires North Koreans to swap existing won notes for new ones at an exchange rate of one to 100 — effectively knocking two zeroes off their value. Because of a cap of 100,000 won per family (£475 at the official exchange rate), anyone with significant holdings of cash will have their savings wiped out.

U.S. nuclear arms in Japan: a firsthand account

Dear Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama,

In the fall of 1980 I was assigned as a civilian university professor to provide Japanese language instruction to the officers and men of the USS Knox (FF-1052), a destroyer home-ported in Yokosuka. Sharing quarters with the ship's nuclear weapons officer, I soon became aware that the Knox was outfitted with an ASROC antisubmarine missile system including nuclear depth bombs.

N.Korea unlikely to give up nuclear weapons: US expert

North Korea is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons in the foreseeable future despite the upcoming talks with Washington, a former senior US diplomat who recently visited Pyongyang said Monday.

David Straub, once head of the State Department's Korea desk, gave his views as Washington prepares to send an envoy to the North for discussions on reviving the stalled six-nation nuclear disarmament talks.

"I see no indication that North Korea, in the foreseeable future, is prepared to give up its nuclear weapons programmes on terms that the US will find politically acceptable," Straub told a Seoul seminar, according to Yonhap news agency.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are we to congratulate this man for his magnificent grasp of the obvious?!?

The US taught both North Korea and the rest of the world a very pointed object lesson about what happens to those countries which do not have a nuclear deterrent, as happened with Iraq and Afghanistan.

The North Korean government may be many things, but they are not crazy. They understand that any first-strike by North Korea would result in that country being turned into green glass by a US counter-strike.

This is about deterrent capabilities only.

The skirmish in the Yellow Sea – the first for seven years – left a North Korean patrol vessel "engulfed in flames" as it retreated back across the border under fire, according to the South Korean prime minister, Chung Un-Chan.

US, SKorea in top-level talks on NKorea

The United States and South Korea on Saturday held top-level talks to discuss ways to press North Korea to return to disarmament talks, a day after the communist state's renewed nuclear sabre-rattling.

In a defiant response to tougher UN sanctions imposed after the nuclear test, North Korea said Friday it was building more plutonium-based atomic weapons and had made progress on enriching uranium.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the immortal words of my late grandmother, "the horse is already out of the barn" on this issue, assuming that what the Korean Central News Agency said the other day is correct.

What the US achieved, by giving North Korea and the world an object lesson in what can happen to a nation which does not have a nuclear deterrent through its invasion and occupation of Iraq, has been to start a nuclear arms race.

US vows strong implementation of NKorea sanctions

The United States on Friday vowed to keep up its tough sanctions regime on North Korea after Pyongyang said it had reached the final stage of enriching uranium.

"We continue to be committed to ensuring that North Korea upholds its international obligations and we continue to strongly implement the sanctions that were approved," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs; if in fact North Korea has reached the final stage of enriching uranium, the horse, as it were, is out of the barn.

Unfortunately, the US did a magnificent job of teaching both North Korea and the world a very compelling object lesson of what happens to a country which does not have a nuclear deterrent with the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

NKorea says in final phase of uranium enrichment

North Korea said Friday it has entered the final phase of uranium enrichment for nuclear weapons and is also building more bombs with spent reactor fuel rods.

After the United Nations imposed tougher sanctions in June following its May 25 nuclear test, the North vowed to start such a programme and to extract plutonium from fuel rods.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, the US taught North Korea - and the world - a very compelling object lesson in what happens to countries without a nuclear deterrent by its invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

Behind The Clinton 'Rescue' In North Korea

One thing is for sure: The US gave NK some significant concession in return for the release of the reporters. My best guess would be that it involved loosening the financial and banking sanctions imposed on NK because these could be undone without the rest of the world knowing.

The reason for all the denials and secrecy is that Obama has made a big issue of the fact that the former US secret policy of rewarding NK for its continual violation of agreements would stop with his administration--though it clearly hasn't. So the administration has to go to extensive lengths to avoid the appearance of being permissive with NK.

Bush urges unified warning against North Korea

Former US president George W. Bush said Saturday the five nations involved in nuclear disarmament talks with North Korea must send a unified warning against Pyongyang's continued defiance.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This statement reminds me of a classic line from one of the comedian Ron White's standup routines: "you can't fix stupid"

First, North Korea is a client state of China, and China is its largest trading partner. For anything here to work in terms of negotiations must have China behind it one thousand percent.

And it appears that Bush is already suffering from acute, selective amnesia regarding the actions of his administration.

Bush gave North Korea and the world a masterful lesson about what happens to countries without a solid nuclear deterrent through his invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

Bill Clinton in N.Korea mission to free reporters

Former US president Bill Clinton arrived in North Korea on Tuesday on a surprise mission to free two jailed US journalists, in what was the highest-profile visit by an American to Pyongyang for nearly a decade.

“Our interest is the successful completion of this issue and to confirm the safe return of the two journalists,” a US official travelling separately with the ex-president’s wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told reporters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The story about the journalists is just a smokescreen; convenient, but nothing more than a cover story.

Clinton has been dispatched to Pyongyang to see what it will take to get North Korea back to the bargaining table. He would not be meeting with Kim Jong-Il, were this not the case.

Of course, this time, the US had better honor the commitments it makes (unlike what happened during the Bush administration)

Pictured: U.S. missile defence test hailed a success as North Korea tensions rise

The latest US missile defence test, conducted last night in Hawaii waters, was deemed a success as tensions continue with North Korea over that country's missile programme.

There had been speculation North Korea would launch a missile toward Hawaii - about 4,500 miles away - to coincide with the July 4 Independence Day holiday in the US.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to whoever actually wrote this piece of tripe.(If you have any kind of a science advisor, it might be useful actually talking to them before writing an article like this!)

As reported in:

http://astroprof.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!9914389DC1F1ADC6!606.entry

"Accuracy of the Taepodong-2 rocket is believed to be poor, particularly as the target range increases. At extreme range, it would probably be lucky if the rocket landed close enough to its designated target to do any damage at all, even with a nuclear warhead."

The Taepo-Dong missile is notoriously difficult for the North Korean Military to control, in terms of staging and targeting. In other words, in its current configuration, it probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

And unfortunately, with regard to North Korea's missile and nuclear programs, the US has given a magnificent object lesson to that country and the world about what happens to a nation which does not have a working nuclear deterrent, as was the case of the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Clinton trades jibes with 'no friends' North Korea

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday that North Korea had "no friends left" to defend it from nuclear sanctions, triggering vitriolic defiance from the Stalinist regime.

Pyongyang hurled invective at "schoolgirl" Clinton and declared disarmament talks dead, as she told Asia's largest security forum that international efforts to squeeze the North over its atomic programme were paying off.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to SoS HRC: North Korea is a client state of China, which is its largest trading partner, just in case you had managed to forget that.

Call me silly, but I would consider that a very powerful friend at this time for North Korea.

North Korea appears to think that it doesn't have to go back to the negotiating table at this point, and apparently it is not getting a great deal of pressure from China to do so.

Unfortunately, the US gave both North Korea and the world a magnificent object-lesson in what happens to a country which doesn't have a nuclear deterrent capability with the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

Clinton concerned by NKorea-Myanmar military links

Fears about military cooperation between the two isolated states escalated after a US Navy destroyer last month began tracking a suspect North Korean ship that was reportedly heading for Myanmar

US officials said a key thrust of Clinton's debut at the forum would be to crank up pressure on North Korea to return to multilateral nuclear disarmament talks after its recent missile and nuclear weapons tests.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only country in the world which can exert any "pressure" on either North Korea or Myanmar is China, should China be so inclined.

Both of these countries are, essentially, client states of China, which makes any military actions against them by the west a big, tacky, hairy "no-no".

So if there is any engagement to be done, China must be persuaded that it is in China's best interests to bring Kim Jong-Il back to the bargaining table; that is, if China can, considering that in the last round of talks with North Korea, the US did not keep its promises.

It is not entirely clear to us why the international community considers it wholly legitimate for the United States to say, "if North Korea engages in aggression against South Korea or the United States, we will retaliate with nuclear weapons," while it universally condemns North Korea when it says, "if the United States engages in aggression against us, we will retaliate with nuclear weapons." S. Korea boosts defense spending, warns of first-strike capability

In a reversal of the usual pattern, South Korea is now warning North Korea that it is developing a first-strike capacity against the communist country.

A South Korean defense reform plan, reported on by the Korea Times, describes the country’s plans for a defense network that would link surveillance satellites, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft and early-warning radar in an effort “to remove North Korea’s asymmetrical military threat of nuclear and missile programs.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, all adults in the room in Seoul, Washington, Pyongyang, and Shanghai; please, let's ratchet the rhetoric down from everyone. These escalating threats are not making things better for the Korean peninsula; only worse.

The leadership of North Korea may be many things, but they are not stupid. I seriously doubt that they would consider any kind of attack against South Korea or Japan, unless they themselves had actually been attacked. because they understand what the swift retribution would be from the US, as in melting North Korea into a puddle of green glass.

We need to move from this war of words into real negotiations with the North Korean government, and the only player who can make this happen is China.

And if China is able to get North Korea back to the bargaining table again regarding its nuclear program, this time, the US had bloody well keep its word, unlike what happened in the last round of negotiations.

At the time of the resolution, which the White House touted as a “strong and united international response,” many analysts had noted that the provisions were ultimately unenforceable. US general: Prepare for terrorist tactics from North Korea

Gen. Walter "Skip" Sharp said that means the South Korean military should prepare by conducting as much realistic training as possible – likely with the aid of the US.

"I believe we will face IEDs and insurgent forces in addition to large conventional attacks," said General Sharp in remarks there Tuesday. "We must immediately begin preparing both ROK [Republic of Korea] and US forces to improve our capabilities in these areas." Sharp didn't mention the "thinking enemy" by name until the end of his prepared remarks. "North Korea is watching and I am convinced that discussing and demonstrating the strength, capabilities, and leadership of the ROK army is the best deterrence."

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder is General Sharp's verbal salvo is some kind of preparation to "groom" the American people for some kind of false flag to justify another war in Korea.

There are only a couple of minor problems with this.

North Korea has a defense treaty with China; the US has a defense treaty with China.

A shooting war with North Korea means that China must, under its treaty obligation, defend North Korea.

War with China, anyone, not to mention China's capability of "dumping" billions of dollars of US debt with which we have been funding our other wars without end?

Let's hope that some adults in the room in Washington realize that this would be the worst of all possible outcomes.

If we are able to get North Korea back to the bargaining table (after the US having broken its word the last time around), it will take a lot of wheeling and dealing by China to make that happen.

US needs to be able to search NKorea ships: Top lawmaker

The United States needs to "figure out some way" to board and search North Korean ships suspected of carrying weapons or nuclear know-how, a senior US lawmaker said Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only reason I can think that McConnell is pushing so hard for this is that he believes that the only way the US can possibly pull out of its current economic death-spiral is another major war.

A non-consensual maritime interdiction by US forces would be incendiary, and would be - rightly - considered an act of war by North Korea.
But let's remember something here: North Korea has a defense pact with China, and South Korea has a defense pact with the US.

Let us hope that there are some adults in the room in Washington , Pyongyang, and China who will not let things get out of control.

The US Government got out of the depression that resulted from the crash of 1929 by getting into WWII. Now we are seeing the aftermath of the crash of 2008. Webmaster's Commentary:

No it doesn't!

Pentagon Deploys Experimental Missile Shield to Hawaii

First came the attempted launch in April. Then, last month, Pyongyang detonated a test nuclear device, which may or may not have worked as planned. Now the Norks are threatening to launch another Taepodong-2 missile, with a 4,000-mile range, towards Hawaii — and Gates is pulling out all the stops, to prepare for an intercept.

That means sending Army Terminal High-Altitude Air Defense missile systems, still in development, to the islands, and deploying the SBX radar. Joint Chiefs vice chairman General James Cartwright said he was “90-plus percent” sure the U.S. could intercept a Nork missile, in the unlikely event it overflew U.S. territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

THAAD and SBX, are problematic and non-robust systems, in terms of their design and testing histories.

But then, they're primarily for show in this escalating war of words.

The type of missile North Korea is looking to launch doesn't have the range to hit Hawaii, and has had a bad track record in terms of staging issues.

And even if these missiles were capable of hitting Hawaii, there is one certainty here: Kim Jong-Il and his military are many things, but they are not stupid. They would not do something which would have the guaranteed result of their country turned into molten shards of green glass by a US counter-strike.

Beijing toys with tougher tactics

Apart from anger at Pyongyang's disobedience - and fears that its nuke program could endanger China - Beijing is worried that the latest development would hand a pretext to countries including South Korea and Japan to procure or produce more sophisticated weapons. Former senior director of the US National Security Council Dennis Wilder pointed out that Kim's nuclearization gambit could be "a game-changer in Northeast Asia security dynamics".

U.S. Fortifies Hawaii to Meet Threat From Korea

Mr. Gates told reporters that the U.S. is positioning a sophisticated floating radar array in the ocean around Hawaii to track an incoming missile. The U.S. is also deploying missile-defense weapons to Hawaii that would theoretically be capable of shooting down a North Korean missile, should such an order be given, he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The North Korean Missile does not have the range to reach Hawaii and obviously North Korea is not going to do something so stupid as to give the US the excuse the US Government wants to crank up a major war. So this "fortification" is just for propaganda purposes.

North Korea Intends to Lift Border-Crossing Restrictions

North Korea indicated during the second government-level talks Friday that it was willing to completely lift restrictions on inter-Korean boarder-crossings imposed last December in a bid to help solve problems at companies operating in the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Call me silly, but this does not sound like the action of a country about to blow the heck out of any other country. And I will bet that there are no US news outlets carrying this info.

U.S. Military Set to Intercept North Korean Ship Suspected of Proliferating Missiles, Nukes

The U.S. military is planning to intercept a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.

The USS John McCain, a navy destroyer, will intercept the ship Kang Nam as soon as it leaves the vicinity off the coast of China, according to a senior U.S. defense official. The order to inderdict has not been given yet, but the ship is getting into position.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just like Haaretz, Fox(faux)News loves to non-source a number of its articles, which it spews into the blogosphere like excess mucus from a sneeze.

Notice the use of the terms "...according to a senior US defense official", and "appears to be heading toward Singapore", again, "according to a senior US military official", and "a possible interdiction".

Who are these people, and why can't this story be actually sourced?

Is it possible that this is just more propagandistic sound and fury signifying nothing?

I wouldn't be against it.

Russia receiving 'relevant' intel on N. Korea missiles

Russian military says its reconnaissance units are relaying 'relevant information' on potential missile launches by North Korea.

On Friday, a senior Russian military official said the country's armed forces had alerted its entire surveillance squad to the possibility of a Pyongyang-led ballistic missile launch, Interfax reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder the degree to which Russia is sharing this information with the US.

Koreas negotiate as nuclear tensions grow

NORTH and South Korea have resumed talks on the fate of their last remaining reconciliation project as the US moved to defend itself in the event of a North Korean missile strike on Hawaii.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The fact in and of itself that North and South Korea are at least talking about the Kaesong industrial estate is at least somewhat of a hopeful sign.

And as to the threat about North Korea even contemplating a missile strike on Hawaii?

The North Korean leadership may be many things, but stupid isn't one of them. They understand precisely what the US response would be to such an attack.

Gates Orders Measures to Protect Hawaii From North Korea Missile

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he has ordered the U.S. military to take defensive measures should North Korea attempt to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kim Jong-Il and his military command may be many things, but stupid is not one of them.

This is just posturing on the part of the US to further demonize North Korea, when - at the last time the US was at the bargaining table - we were the ones who did not keep our word.

NKorea accuses SKorea of driving to brink of war

North Korea has accused the South of escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula to the brink of war.

Rodong Sinmun, the official daily of the North’s ruling communist party, said the United States and its allies had launched a smear campaign against Pyongyang at the UN Security Council and drastically raised the danger of invading the North.

“The situation on the Korean peninsula is more tense than ever,” the daily said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And anyone who thinks South Korea is doing this on their own is a fool!

U.S. Military Tracking North Korean Ship Suspected of Proliferating Missiles, Nukes

The U.S. military is tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.

The ship, Kang Nam, left a port in North Korea Wednesday and could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That ship could be carrying kimchee, too!

But it doesn't matter what it is carrying; the moment the US interdicts that ship (fancy USA-speak for piracy), that will be the very provocation North Korea warned they would respond to.

In other word, the US Government, unable to get a war in Iran going, is going to start a war with North Korea.

The DC boys know they have screwed the economy. They know it. They know you know it. They hope, they PRAY, that if they can start a war the resulting surge of patriotism and war fever will addle your puny (in their estimations) little brains and make you forget that it is not North Korea but Washington DC which is the gravest threat to your way of life.

US says it will not accept NKorea as nuclear state

US excoriates North Korea's nuclear defiance, urges Pyongyang to return to negotiating table.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Given that the United States is the only nation to actually use nuclear weapons of mass destruction against the civilians of another country, the displayed attitude towards North Korea is both arrogant and hypocritical.

But of course, nuclear weapons are not the real issue. The USA needs a nation to beat up to distract the American people from the total melt-down of the economy brought about by reckless government policy and corruption.

And they don't even care which nation it is.

Clinton says interdiction possible for NKorea

The Obama administration wants help from U.S. allies and possibly China to cut off North Korean shipments that may be carrying nuclear technology or other weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"This is called "An Act Of War" and is exactly the provocations North Korea said it will respond to.

In other words, the US is trying to start a war, ANY war, any WHERE.

North Korea may fire a missile toward Hawaii

While the newspaper speculated the Taepodong-2 could fly over Japan and toward Hawaii, it said the missile would not be able to hit Hawaii's main islands, which are about 4,500 miles (7,200 kilometers) from the Korean peninsula.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Okay, so the Korean missile can't actually reach Hawaii, but we at least stirred up images of Pearl harbor and sneak attacks, and we can use that to sucker the people into another invasion!" -- Official White Horse Souse

Nuclear North Korea poses a 'grave threat': Obama

"North Korea has abandoned its own commitments and violated international law," Obama said, alongside Lee during his first appearance in the White House Rose Garden with a foreign leader.

"Its nuclear and ballistic missile programs pose a grave threat to (the) peace and security of Asia and to the world."

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Ahem). Memo to President Obama: what's that old maxim about people living in glass houses and not throwing stones?

The US did not keep its word in the last round of negotiations with North Korea.

North Korea has been given a magnificent object lesson, courtesy of US foreign policy, about what happens when a country doesn't have a nuclear deterrent, as in the case of the invasion and occupation of Iraq, which was premised on a "confession" achieved through the use of torture.

Our leverage is limited right now, and the only player in the game which can possibly help is China, which is North Korea's number one trading partner.

And if we can manage to get North Korea back to the bargaining table, this time, we need to keep our word if and when an agreement is reached.

DPRK threatens to launch pre-emptive strike against U.S.

"Under the present situation where the Korean People's Army (KPA) is technically at war with the U.S. imperialists, and as the Armistice Agreement has lost its legal binding force, the KPA will promptly exercise the right to a pre-emptive strike to beat back the enemies' slightest provocation," Pak said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a textbook case of media propaganda. Read the quote. What Pak is actually saying is that North Korea will RESPOND to the "slightest provocation". Is this is a response, then it is not pre-emtive. The two concepts are mutually exclusive. The phrase "pre-emptive" has been added to the quote and the headline to trick you into thinking that the North Koreans are the bad guys.

Somebody REALLY wants a war!

North Korea Warns of Nuclear War as Tensions Continue to Rise

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak is traveling to the United States for talks with President Obama, as tensions on the Korean Peninsula reached a new high today. North Korea has responded to US plans to stop its ships under a new UN resolution by threatening war in that event. The nation also appears to be raising the specter of a nuclear war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Non-consensual maritime interdiction can absolutely be interpreted as an act of war.

However, Kim Jong-Il may be many things, but stupid isn't one of them.

He understands very clearly that attacking South Korea or any other country in the area would be met with an American response which would turn all of North Korea into one smoldering mass of green glass.

Unfortunately the US has given both North Korea and the world a magnificent object lesson as to what can happen when a country doesn't have a nuclear deterrent with the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

And Biden's claim that "... the administration has no idea what North Korea is seeking..." is, simply put, a large, steaming crock.

By chucking the 1953 Armistice, North Korea has telegraphed to the world that what they want is a permanent peace treaty, with guarantees of sovereignty, and trade opportunities. The last time China was able to get North Korea to the conference table, the US did not keep its word on its promises.

If China is able to get its recalcitrant client-state back to the conference table, this time, the US has to make good on its promises.

That is the only way of defusing the tensions here.

Of course, there are some in Washington who see yet another war (any war, thank you very much) as the only way to distract the American people from the wholesale decline in their standard of living being forced upon them by this predatory government.

N. Korea Warns of Nuke War

North Korea "is completely within the range of U.S. nuclear attack and the Korean peninsula is becoming an area where the chances of a nuclear war are the highest in the world," the Tongil Sinbo commentary said.

The above was taken directly from the article, and at the same time, the headline is the same as the one that initially pointed me there. It is directly from the front-center-feature of Yahoo's main page. What appear to be concerns of a US-fueled escalation are "headlined" into something sounding like a threat from the North. Un-be-F-ing-lievable.
