INHERITING AN EMPIRE

When Barack Hussein Obama takes the oath of office, he will receive more than the reins to the executive office of the U.S. government; he will inherit the rulership of empire, one that no American consciously voted for.

As the ignominious Presidency of George W. For Obama, huge challenges vs. big assets

Barack Obama will inherit two wars and the worst economic conditions in three generations when he takes the oath of office on Jan. 20. Ironically, that challenge might be a blessing for the president-elect — unemployment is so high and consumer confidence so low that even modest improvements will let him claim progress.

Obama's Familiar Orbit

By Michael Winship

SNIP

The Bush administration made the economic disaster worse, but both Barack Obama’s designated Secretary of the Treasury -- Tim Geithner -- and his choice to direct the National Economic Council, Larry Summers (a former Treasury secretary), are pals of Bill Clinton’s Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, who left Treasury to join Citigroup, where he’s now a director and senior advisor. Yes, folks, Citigroup -- the bank the government now has agreed to insure against projected losses of $306 billion -- on top of bailouts totaling $45 billion.

by Wayne Madsen

(WMR) -- With less than two months remaining in office, George W. The president-elect has to take a stand on Bush’s dark legacy

Bush's pardons

Still, Bush's second term isn't over, and an array of prominent -- or notorious -- offenders are hoping that the president will rise above principle and spare them prison time or wipe their criminal records clean. Some are former government officials, such as Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, who pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from defense contractors, and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, whose sentence for perjury was commuted by Bush last year. Others, such as junk-bond king Michael Milken and former Enron Chief Executive Jeffrey K. Skilling, were convicted of white-collar crimes.

U.S. Prepares for New Caucasus War

U.S. President George W. Bush has ordered U.S. commercial vessels in the Black Sea to be insured against military risks through March 2009. The White House acknowledges that the November 25 memorandum, which has been published on the White House website, is connected with Georgia, to which U.S. ships are delivering military hardware and weapons. RBC Daily newspaper cites experts’ suggestions that the United States is preparing for another war in the Caucasus, which would give NATO a pretext for accepting the memberships of Ukraine and Georgia.

For the past eight years, George Bush watched, and assisted as some eight to twelve million illegal migrants crashed U.S. borders to displace American workers while they wreaked chaos in American schools, hospitals and prisons. At press conferences, he said, "They do the jobs that Americans won't do." While reports show illegal aliens killed more Americans via drunk driving, murders and rapes than combat soldiers suffered death in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mr. Bush no longer speaks about illegal migrants doing the jobs that Americans won't do.
