China infuriated by US-Philippines defense plans

The US decision to station forces in the Philippines could have dangerous repercussions. Beijing may enact economic sanctions after Manila invited in US troops in response to an escalating territorial dispute over the South China Sea.

Dr. Pak-Nung Wong of the City University of Hong Kong told RT that the Philippines is merely cashing in on America's move.

β€œAt the international level, the Philippines knows that the US has definitely returned to Asia – refocusing its military and security deployment in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, targeting China and Iran as the primary security concern,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let us hope that ultimately, cooler heads in Beijing and DC will prevail on this move by the US.

But there is one thing that those in the bowels of power in DC, Tel Aviv, and Geneva need to realize; Chinese military leadership has gone on record as stating that they will unhesitatingly start World War III to avoid losing the oil they need from Iran.

According to NDTV, a Chinese news station based outside the country, in regard to recent speculation that Iran would be the target of a US-Israeli military assault, Major General Zhang Zhaozhong commented that, "China will not hesitate to protect Iran even with a third world war," remarks described as "puzzling to some". The news report also quotes Professor Xia Ming as paraphrasing Zhaozhong's quote that, "not hesitating to fight a third world war would be entirely for domestic political needs."

I would not characterize this strong language as "puzzling"; this general was simply making the case for what he believes would be in China's best interests, if the US and Israel are insane enough to initiate such a military misadventure.

And in recent years, unfortunately, sanity has had a rather distant relationship to US foreign policy.

I would, therefore, respectfully request that the US, NATO, and Israeli military and civilian leadership take this person at his word.
