Rare Snows in North Africa

Snow made a rare appearance in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria.

Cold air associated with a storm system diving into northern Africa provided for some decent accumulations of snow in the north African country.

According to Accuweather Meteorologist Eric Wanenchak, most reports say the last time Algiers saw this kind of accumulation was at least seven years ago in 2005.

'Too cold' for trains in northern Sweden

The plunging mercury has put a stop to rail services to the far north of Sweden on Sunday with rail operator SJ explaining that it was just too cold to guarantee safety.

"It is due to the cold. The trains can be left stationary on the line," said Anders Edgren at SJ's press office.

Services between Luleå and Narvik in Norway suffered disruption on Saturday and SJ has announced that night train services from Gothenburg and Stockholm to Kiruna and Luleå have been cancelled on Sunday.

"The trains can be left standing and evacuations would take too long. It gets cold fast and we can't guarantee travellers' safety," Edgren explained.

Climate

This website is getting harder and harder to read with all of the weather reports. Every time it snows somewhere in the world, whether it is in the arctic in the winter or the south pole in the summer, there are reports that say "Look its snowing" Al Gore is a fool.

Come on folks. Lets get real. There is still going to be snow somewhere in the world in the winter.

If you want to have a reasonable debate on the effects of human activities on the world's climate, stick to the long term trends, not the weather reports. Don't you know the difference.

The United Nations Wants To Crash The World Economy In Order To Save The Environment

The United Nations says that the earth is in great danger and that the way you and I are living is the problem. In a shocking new report entitled, "Resilient People, Resilient Planet: A Future Worth Choosing" the UN declares that the entire way that we currently approach economics needs to be changed. Instead of focusing on things like "economic growth", the UN is encouraging nations all over the world to start basing measurements of economic success on the goal of achieving "sustainable development". But there is a huge problem with that. The UN says that what we are doing right now is "unsustainable" by definition, and the major industrialized nations of the western world are the biggest culprits.

UN-Linked Group Claims Global Warming Was a Cause of the Arab Spring

The RTCC's entry on the "Stupid List" is, The Arab Spring. Yep that's right, Global Warming was a contributing factor to the unrest in the Middle East that caused the overthrow of governments. As Dr. Jeffrey Mazo wrote:

At first blush, the question might seem absurd. [ya think?]Surely the myriad long- and short-term social, economic, political and religious drivers of anger and dissent are the obvious culprits. How could climate change have had any – let alone a significant or meaningful – impact on the Arab spring?

Please don't hold what this guy says against me because we have the same first name. According to Mazo, Climate Change didn't cause the unrest all on its own, but made it more likely to happen.

Sun Causes Climate Change Shock

The science is now all-but-settled on global warming, convincing new evidence demonstrates, but Al Gore, the IPCC and other global warming doomsayers won’t be celebrating. The new findings point to cosmic rays and the sun — not human activities — as the dominant controller of climate on Earth.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I decided to relink this story because apparently that segment of the population unable to admit they were bamboozled by Al Gore and wound up being "Useful Idiots" for the Carbonazis are whining and crying over yesterday's posting of CLIMATEGATE: A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY and I am receiving a ton of snarky emails from the true believers who fail to realize that simply by being believers they were suckered.

Fort myself, I have abandoned belief as a thought process. Partly it is because I got tossed out of Sunday School at a young age for expressing the opinion that Lot was hardly someone to look up to after offering to let his daughters be gang-banged to protect two strangers who said they were angels, who had they actually been angels would hardly need the little girls to hide behind. Then I read past the chapter and verse required by the minister and found the part where Lot knocks up his daughters himself, and it was at that point I was requested not to attend Sunday School any more. In hindsight, I am lucky that burning the heretics was illegal in Loudon at the time!

But I digress.

There is still a segment of the population that confuse being told what to think with actual thinking and that beliefs imposed from above are just as good as knowing the real facts. Such fools are the fodder for every con-artist, scammer, hoaxer, fraud, and tyrant in history, and the fact that there are so many such fools is why such swindlers prosper. And if there is one factor common to all fools it is the inability to admit they were fooled and a preference for fanatical hysteria when confronted with proof of their foolishness, and so as the last of the fakery about human-caused global warming crumbles away, I expect the hysteria to reach warp-drive in the coming months. Certainly those governments already growing richer off of carbon taxes will never admit error and offer a refund, nor will those who accepted the assurances of Al Gore waver in their faith for to doubt Al Gore is to doubt all politicians, and that would mean ... that would mean ... that would mean that Iraq really didn't have nuclear weapons after all, and was bombed into rubble for no real reason at all! And that might mean that Iran is innocent as well ... and we can't ever allow any doubts about that now, can we?

Children just aren't going to know what sun is

The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.

The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.

Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

So, to recap: a scientist from arguably Britain's most discredited university department – the Climatic Research Unit at the UEA – made a fool of himself and his employer by feeding to a newspaper wrongheaded disaster scenarios based on woefully inaccurate computer projections, thus lending spurious credibility to a massive media scaremongering campaign which has led to the squandering of billions of pounds on an entirely unnecessary scheme to "decarbonise" the UK economy. His reward for this was to be granted a taxpayer-funded salary to go round the world spreading more abject nonsense about a mostly non-existent threat called "climate change."

Are the snows of Kilimanjaro returning? Guide says yes

One of Mount Kilimanjaro's most dramatic features is its breathtaking glaciers, which slither across its dormant volcanic plateau and down its crater slope in frigid shades of bluish-green.

And one of the saddest claims of some scientists and environmental activists is that those glaciers are disappearing, perhaps before the end of the decade, another victim of rising global temperatures.

Athumani Juma doesn't believe it. A guide who's been hiking the mountain for the past seven years, he laughed when he was asked about the likelihood that Kilimanjaro's snowcap would disappear soon. The glaciers, he claimed, no longer are shrinking, but growing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Kilimanjaro's snow cap is far more influenced by logging at the base of the mountain than by global temperatures. Trees add moisture to the air. As you cut down trees, humidity drops and there is as a result less rainfall. The decline in Kilimanjaro's snow cap coincides with aggressive logging surrounding the mountain. Now that the logging has subsided and new secondary growth has taken the place of the harvested trees, precipitation is increasing and the snow cap is again growing.

Sea Level Rise During The Hottest Year Ever

According to NASA’s Dr. Hansen, 2010 was the hottest year ever, and Greenland temperatures were also the hottest ever. Additionally, thermal expansion from the record heat caused the oceans to get much deeper.

The fishing town of Cordova, Alaska has seen 18 feet of snow this winter, and with the town of 2,239 residents (23% of them Native) buried in the white stuff, Mayor Jim Kallendar declared a state of emergency on Sunday and called in the National Guard.

The city’s website, CityofCordova.net, displays periodic updates on “Snowpocalypse 2012,” and the catchy nickname isn’t entirely hyperbole. According to a CBS news report, the accumulation is three times the average for the area; a resident says there is “more snow in Cordova than people and shovels to deal with it.”

Trapped in ice: Alaska fuel convoy moves just 50 FEET in a day... and giant ice wall blocks harbour for crucial delivery

"Thus we have chickens coming home to roost. After years of warmist propaganda, Alaska is suffering a ferocious winter, and the US government has been caught out, totally unprepared to deal with the conditions."

The next ice age will first manifest in the far north.

No-frills airline Ryanair adds 25p to every ticket price to pay for 'eco-loony' green tax scheme

Ryanair is to add 25p to all bookings from next week under a new EU tax aimed at cutting carbon emissions.

The budget airline, which will bring in the levy from January 17, described the European Emissions Trading System as an 'eco-loony tax'.

It said ETS would cost Ryanair passengers between 15million and 20million euros during 2012.

The levy will apply per passenger, per one-way flight. It is levied based on an airline's carbon emissions.

FLASHBACK - Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain's culture, as warmer winters - which scientists are attributing to global climate change - produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Tell that to the Alaskan Eskimos cut off by snow and all those European Ski Resorts closed from too much snow.

Blizzard, avalanches cut off Girdwood, Kenai Peninsula

The Seward Highway remains closed between Anchorage and Girdwood due to whiteout conditions from blowing snow, snowdrifts along the roadway and two avalanches this morning in the McHugh Creek area, a spokesman for the state transportation department said.

Some avalanche debris reached the northbound lane and highway crews are working in the area, said Rick Feller, a spokesman for the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The department and Alaska State Troopers have closed the highway between Potter Marsh and Girdwood, he said.

"It's zero visibility and extremely difficult driving conditions," Feller said.

Teams were looking closely at the snowpack elsewhere to see if explosives would be needed to clear other potential avalanche hazards, Feller said.

Noatak and Kobuk have just about run out of fuel oil too

The Inupiat village of Noatak, where temperatures dipped to 45 below or colder each of the past three days, ran out of heating oil Saturday at the village store, residents say. Elder Bernice Monroe said her 78-year-old husband drove a snowmachine to nearby Red Dog Mine to buy a drum of fuel, while the store borrowed drums from the utility pump house and began rationing sales to 10 gallons per family.

People called each other on the VHF radio asking if anyone has fuel to sell or share, said Noatak resident Hilda Booth. "My husband and I are using our fish rack woods to heat up our home because it's so cold to go out and get wood."

Alaska snow and ice cuts off Cordova and Nome

Extreme winter weather has left one Alaskan town battling huge snowdrifts and forced another to seek fuel supplies from a Russian tanker.

The Alaskan National Guard has arrived to dig out the town of Cordova, which has seen 10ft (3m) of snow in a week.

Alaska town tries to dig out from huge snow dump

Dozens of National Guard troops have arrived in Cordova to help the Alaska fishing town dig out from massive snows that have collapsed roofs, trapped some people in homes and triggered avalanches.

The city is used to snow, but not like this season's blanketing.

Are wind turbines increasing carbon emissions?

A new report published on Monday by Civitas, a social policy thinktank that promotes a "free and democratic society", is claiming that wind power is "inordinately expensive and ineffective at cutting CO2 emissions". In a particularly eye-catching claim, it argues that "wind power, backed by conventional gas-fired generation, can emit more CO2 than the most efficient gas turbines running alone". If true, that would make a mockery of the government's current policy of promoting and subsidising wind turbines.

Tanker carrying supplies for stranded Alaskan village gets stuck in thick ice flows as it crosses the frigid Bering Sea

A Russian tanker carrying desperately-needed fuel supplies for the far northern Alaskan city of Nome keeps getting stuck in thick ice flows as it crosses the frigid Bering Sea in the dead of winter.

Fortunately, the 370-foot tanker Renda is escorted by a specially-designed Coast Guard ice breaker, the USCGC Healy, whose extra-thick hull is capable of crashing through ice several feet thick.

But that means going is slow. The two ships are covering just five to six nautical miles a day, even though they still have more 300 miles of sea ice to burst through before they can reach Nome.

ETHANOL FACTORY SOLD, COSTING TAXPAYERS $65M...

The failed Range Fuels wood-to-ethanol factory in southeastern Georgia that sucked up $65 million in federal and state tax dollars was sold Tuesday for pennies on the dollar to another bio-fuel maker with equally grand plans to transform the alternative energy world.

LanzaTech, a New Zealand-based biofuel company, paid $5.1 million for the plant in Soperton. Its main financial backer: Vinod Khosla, a California entrepreneur who also bankrolled Range Fuels, and helped secure its government loans, before Range went bust last year.

U.S. Abandons Renewable Fuels

CRU's Source Code: Climategate Uncovered

What exactly is meant by "corrected” MXD," you ask? Outstanding question -- and the answer appears amorphous from program to program. Indeed, while some employ one or two of the aforementioned "corrections," others throw everything but the kitchen sink at the raw data prior to output.

Exposure of global warming deception goes viral

With the advent of the new year, perhaps it’s a good time to once again expose the global warming narrative for what it actually is: fact-free alarmist fear-mongering – scientific fraud, to be exact – designed to shut down fossil-fuel industries, enrich carbon traders, soak taxpayers and reduce affluent western societies to a state of pre-industrial poverty – all the while purporting to save the world from what turns out to be an imaginary man-made bogeyman.

Greener energy will cost £4,600 each a year

Reducing dependence on fossil fuels and moving to renewable and nuclear energy would cost an additional £60billion every year until 2050, the officials said.

But Professor David MacKay, a government adviser on climate change, said that doing nothing to reduce carbon emissions would prove even more expensive because of rising energy prices.

Although the cost of converting to green energy will initially be paid by energy companies and the Government, they are likely to pass it on to taxpayers through higher energy bills and taxes.

New Year’s Resolutions For Climate Scientists

1. I will admit that warming has been much slower than we expected
2. I will admit that recent sea level rise is nothing unusual or threatening
3. I will admit that our forecasts of declining snow cover were wrong
4. I will admit that Arctic temperatures are cyclical, and that we have no idea what will happen to Arctic ice over the next 50 years
5. I will admit that our forecasts of Antarctic warming have been a total failure.
6. I will admit that Polar Bear populations are not threatened
7. I will admit that climate models have demonstrated no skill, and are nothing more that research projects
8. I will admit there was a Medieval Warm Period
9. I will admit that that there was a Little Ice Age
10. I will stop pretending that we don’t have climate records prior to 1970
